Monday, October 25, 2010 - Just For Kids held a press conference and Open House . Congressman Nick Rahall, State Senator Bill Laird, State Delegates Virginia Mahan and Linda Sumner attended.
Tuesday, January 4, 2011 - Just For Kids in collaboration with the Family Resource Networks of Raleigh, Fayette and Wyoming Counties held a public policy forum at Tamarack. The forum was focused on children's issues in the community. Sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia, the theme of the forum was "The #1 Question: Is it Good For Children?". Public officials, religious leaders, community leaders and the general public heard about the issues most pressing in the three counties Just For Kids serves. These included: child sexual abuse, prescription drug abuse, transportation, housing, and obesity.
January 26, 2011 - Margaret Ann O'Neal, Executive Director of United Way of Southern West Virginia presented Scott Miller the first quarterly United Way support check for 2011. The United Way is a major supporter of Just For Kids, Inc
February 3, 2011 - Scott Miller, Executive Director of Just for Kids met with eight members of the WV Legislative delegation at the Capitol to discuss the important work that Child Advocacy Centers provide across the state. All of the legislators signed the Just For Kids Pledge of Support. April 11, 2011 - Three Just For Kids staff attended the quarterly meeting of the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network in Flatwoods. Our Family Advocates met with advocates from 13 other centers across West Virginia. They shared ideas, concerns, frustrations and successes. The Executive Director's also met to discuss programatic issues. In the afternoon (see picture) the whole group met and heard a presentation on the issues of domestic violence and it's relationship to child sexual abuse.
April 18, 2011 - Bill File, President of the Beckley Area Foundation Board of Directors congratulates Just For Kids Executive Director, Scott Miller, on being awarded a grant from the Foundation to conduct a radio abuse awareness/prevention campaign .
April 18, 2011 - Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month in front of the Mayor's office in Beckley. Just For Kids staff decorate the lawn with pinwheels, a national symbol for the month with the theme "It's Your Turn, To Make A Difference"
September 26, 2011 - Some highlights of activities since the Spring - Just For Kids continues its successful radio campaign, 20 volunteers help raise over $2,000 at the Greenbrier Classic, ten community members are recognized at the Just For Kids Annual Recognition Dinner held at the new McBee's Hall in uptown Beckley, Just For Kids receives grants from Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, The Boy Scouts of America, the WV State Police, and the National Children's Alliance as well as Tax Credits through the Neighborhood Investment Program from the WV Development Office
